Volunteers

Volunteers

Library Volunteers provide much needed support for professionally trained librarians and staff throughout the library system.  As a library volunteer you would work under the supervision of library staff providing assistance with a wide range of tasks that could include;

● Shelving of materials
● Cleaning library materials and straightening shelves
● Clerical support
● Helping with library programs

Library volunteers must be over the age of 14. Minors that wish to volunteer at the library must have parent or guardian consent before they can be approved as library volunteers.Please note there are limited volunteer opportunities within the library and an application to volunteer is not a guarantee of a volunteer position with the library. Volunteers over the age of 18 will be required to complete a background check with the Smithfield Police Department as required by law.

The library staff will strive to make your time volunteering at the library a positive and meaningful experience as your time is important to us and all volunteers are a vital asset to the library. Volunteering at the library offers a wide range of benefits from the development of skills to the satisfaction of providing a much needed service to the community.

Applications are available at the library or you can print an application from this page.
