Public Hearing - 10/15/2025 6:35 p.m. (City Council) - Smithfield City Council Member Mid-Term Vacancy

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN of a City Council Member Vacancy in Smithfield, Utah.  Any person interested in serving as a City Council Member and meeting the following eligibility and residency requirements is hereby invited to complete an application. The appointed Council Member will serve for a period of just over two years with a term ending on December 31, 2027.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT
To be considered for appointment, applicants must:

  1. Be a U.S. citizen at the time of filing for appointment.
  2. Be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
  3. Have been a registered voter in Smithfield City for at least 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the appointment.
  4. Be a resident of Smithfield City for at least 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the appointment.
  5. Not be disqualified from holding public office under Utah law (e.g., due to felony conviction or mental incompetence).

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Interested individuals must submit an application to the City Recorder no later than 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025, by email at dlazcanotegui@smithfieldutah.gov or in person at the Smithfield City Office Building, 96 S. Main, Smithfield, Utah Monday through Thursday, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.               

PUBLIC MEETINGS NOTICE

The City Council will hold a public meeting on October 15, 2025, starting no sooner than 6:35 p.m. to interview applicants and make an appointment to fill the vacancy. This meeting will be held at the Smithfield City Office, 96 South Main, Smithfield, Utah.  Interviews will be conducted in person. Video interviews will not be considered.
